On Saturday night a friend asked me to photograph the confirmation ceremony at St Joseph’s Highgate. It was a beautiful ceremony and I love the way these teenagers approached their confirmation with such genuine enthusiasm. Confirmation is about identity; committing yourself to be who you are. In a way it’s a coming out ceremony – a moment when young people declare themselves to be who they are.
Someone once said, ‘Ask a teenager while they still know everything.’ And I do love to photograph young people with their untested confidence. You get the feeling they are going to illuminate the world, to shake it up. I hope they do.
Here are some images of the church from before the ceremony.
